Interactions with the network posts and elements#
On MainCross networks, your important interactions are kept private by design - upvotes, downvotes, channel subscriptions, poll votes, ratings given, content analytics, etc are not discoverable by anyone.
We don't believe that there is any reason why this kind of information should be freely discoverable by others, and used against you in some form - either to profit from it, or to pass judgements on you and your beliefs and worldview, or even to create needless dramatic news.
Post upvotes
The post upvote and star is a positive feedback for the post author and this information is shown to the post author. However this is not discoverable by anyone else, ie this is a direct communication between you and the post author only.
Post downvotes
The post downvote is not shown to the post author, and is further not discoverable by anyone else.
Poll votes
Your selection of Poll choices is known only to you. It is not provided to the Poll creator, and is further not discoverable by anyone else.
Open ended Poll
If you choose to answer an Open-ended Poll question privately, then this information is shown to the Poll creator and is not discoverable by anyone else. However if you choose to answer an Open-ended Poll question publicly, then of course its discoverable by all.
Participation in engagement widgets - SentiMeter, OpinioMeter, etc
Your selected choice in various engagement widgets is known only to you, and is further not discoverable by anyone else.
No third party trackers#
Our technology stack uses only plain Google Analytics for anonymous aggregated visitor analysis.
Unlike other services, we do not use any invasive third-party tracking, metrics, user interaction collection software.
Take a look at any consumer internet website today - chances are that there will be at least a dozen drop in services loading up along with the main service. These are invasive services that track your every move on the site, that measure everything you are doing, how far you have scrolled, clicked etc. In some cases, they decide what to show you, how to tailor the service based on what you have viewed or clicked. Some of these are ad networks that show you ads by reading cookies etc.
Android app#
Our Android apps offer login via Facebook. We take great care to disable all Facebook data collection and privacy violations. The following Facebook "features" are turned off:
- Collection of Advertiser IDs
- Automatically Logged Events
- Automatic SDK Initialization
You are not the product#
The model followed by all existing social networks is extractive by design. You are measured, vigorously tracked, quantified and then sold to third party data trackers and ad networks.
We strongly believe that this model is inherently flawed and deeply disrespectful to you and only enriches a handful at the cost of all society. Join hands with us as we challenge this status quo and create a network that is meant for us as creators and users.
Our privacy policy#
Your privacy is critically important to us. At MainCross, we have a few fundamental principles - We are careful with the personal information we request you to provide and that we collect through the operation of our services. We store personal information for only as long as we have a reason to keep it. We aim for full transparency on how we gather, use, and share your personal information. Read the policy.
