Verified accounts#
Verified account status helps everyone easily identify and trust the authenticity of prominent or influential accounts, reducing the risk of misinformation or impersonation. Verified accounts are commonly associated with public figures, celebrities, brands, media organizations, and government entities.
On MainCross Networks, a verified shield icon is shown beside the account handle to let people know that this account is authentic. It is always placed in the same location beside the username wherever it is displayed.
Once an account is Verified, it is no longer allowed to change the Account Type, Display name and Username.
Applying for a Verified Account#
A Member Account may apply for a Verified Account during onboarding (or later by navigating to Logged in menu > Initial setup).
Do not apply for account verification until you have filled out your profile completely. This includes the Display name, Username, high quality and clear Display picture, and the Short bio.
Ensure that your Display name, Username and Display picture match your Account Type.
You can help the verification process by:
- Signing up using a custom domain email ID, if your account represents a individual-business or organization.
- Filling in the Website field if you have one.
- Filling in the Detailed bio field.
If the account type selected is an Individual account, the Member has to consent to the following:
- I certify that I am a well-known person or public figure.
- I understand that account type, display name, username and display photo may not be changed once this account has been verified.
If the account type selected is an Organization account, the Member has to consent to the following:
- I understand that account type, display name, username and display photo may not be changed once this account has been verified.
Verified Accounts are enabled only for human (ie non AI avatars / bots etc) public figures or organizations.
If you are not a public figure, your account may not be verified.
Verified accounts may be accompanied by a badge which describes the Verified Account Type, eg Journalist, Cause Champion, Digital Magazine, Publisher, Network Owner, etc.
Verified accounts are also subject to the same restrictions as a Member Account.
Verification process#
- There is no cost for Verification.
- Verification is not guaranteed, and it may be revoked once granted.
- We manually review and confirm the identity and ownership of the account. We may ask for further information to help us with the verification.
Reasons for verification rejection#
If your verification request has been rejected, it may be for 1 or more reasons and you are advised to check the requirements that need to be fulfilled. This may be due to an incorrect Account Type selected, mismatch between Username / Display name and Account Type, false, fake or wrong data entered, impersonation, etc.
