Member subscribers

Members or non-registered users can subscribe to an author and can be notified whenever the author publishes their next story. Notification is not automated - its in control of the author.

Subscribing to a member's stories#

Any member or even non registered users can instantly subscribe to an author's Article posts. Subscribe to any other post type is not available. Every Article contains a subscribe box at the end which allows subscribe and unsubscribe.

Logged in members

When one is logged in, this simple widget allows for easy subscribe with just 1 click and no fuss.

If the member has subscribed earlier, the same widget allows for easy unsubscribe with 1 click:

Unregistered user

Unregistered users can enter an email address to be added as a subscriber.

Informing subscribers#

Article posts can be delivered to your subscribers by hitting the notify button on the Creator Actions strip at the top of the post.

This opens up a new window with some information on the current number of subscribers and shows an analysis of the current story.

In order to maintain high quality and prevent frivolous notifications to be sent to subscribers, the Notify now button is only enabled if all the checkmarks are green. ie

  1. The post must have a featured images
  2. The summary field must be of adequate length: at least 100 characters
  3. The actual story must be at least of 300 words

Note that the minimum word length may be changed in the future, based on user testing and feedback.

When you click on the Notify now button, your subscribers are notified via their chosen mode (Email, Telegram, etc) that you have published a new story.

Things to be kept in mind

  1. Each subscriber is notified once and only once irrespective of edits made to your Article post. You are encouraged to notify subscribers only when you have finished making all edits - don't jump the gun
  2. If you click the Notify now button later at any point, notifications are only sent to new subscribers, ie those that have not already been notified.
  3. Notifications are put in a queue and may not be instantly delivered.

Quality checks

Though we call this "quality" checks, it should more accurately be called quantity checks 🙈 as a stand-in for quality. Yes, we know its not the best way, but it's one way to ensure that your subscribers are not notified needlessly.

Annoyed subscribers = fewer subscribers

This check is also there to ensure that short posts are not masquerading as Article posts.

Here are some examples where one cannot notify subscribers since the quality checks have not passed:

1. Post without a featured image and inadequate summary length

2. Post without a featured image, inadequate summary length and inadequate story length.
