Network Roles

Network Sites may optionally define a few roles for its Members. The role schema can be made mandatory - ie existing and new members have to choose a role before participating on the Network.

What is it?#

Members are allowed access to the network upon selection of a "role" - ie members must one-time select from the roles offered on that network in order to proceed.

The selected Role is attached to that account only on that network. Note that since Network Roles are defined per Network, the same account can have different roles on different networks.

Currently this feature allows the network operator to collect additional information from the member via a form during onboarding.

Read the product story for more details.

A network operator may opt for this feature. It requires manual setup - please contact support to enable this on your network.

Points to remember#

  1. Network Roles cannot be changed once defined (though minor changes in the Role name & description can be done)
  2. Member MUST self-select from multiple Network Roles that are offered:
  3. This step is mandatory during onboarding
  4. This step is mandatory for existing Members as well
  5. This is 1 time only, and a badge is automatically assigned
  6. This step is not presented to non-Members, ie non-Members can view without hurdle
  7. A form accompanies the Network Role and MUST be filled out in the same step of Role selection
  8. A different Role cannot be selected by the Member later
  9. Form can be edited anytime by the Member

Information required from the network operator#

  1. Define between 2 and 4 unambiguous and mutually-exclusive Network Roles (name + description + image)
  2. Example “Brand”, “Influencer”, “Consumer”
  3. Example "Startup", "Advisor", "Investor"
  4. Example "Cadre", "Citizen"
  5. Create a data collection form per Role in your Org channel
  6. Keep the form simple, or at least with mostly optional fields to reduce friction
