Poll Post type

The Poll Post supports a variety of polling formats - single choice, multiple choice, open ended, with an optional deadline. It can even be used for polling without having the user signed in.

Everyone loves a well-crafted poll - its fun participating in a poll, and its equally fun seeing the results come to life in real time. The MainCross Poll Post type supports a variety of polling formats - single choice, multiple choice, open ended, and with the ability to create Likert scales.

Creating a Poll post#

The Poll post type allows for rich, interactive poll posts to be created. Each Poll contains a mandatory question, an optional featured image and an optional description field which can be used to expand on the question if required.

Care must be taken not to confuse the poll taker by asking something different in the description field vs the question field. The question field is the only objective of the poll. If in doubt, do not use the description field.

Deadline

Time sensitive Polls can be assigned an optional deadline. Once the deadline expires, the poll can no longer be taken.

Single choice (participants can only choose one answer)

2 to 6 choices can be provided, and poll takers will be able to select only 1 choice. See it live.

Multiple choice (participants can choose multiple answers)

Multiple choices are presented to the poll taker, and any number of choices can be selected. See it live.

Open-ended question

Open-ended questions give respondents the chance to answer in their own words, adding depth and context to your results. See it live. This type of Poll question can only be created by Pro accounts.

Linear scale

Single choice questions can be enhanced to display choices on a linear scale. It can only be created by Pro accounts.

Choices on a linear scale can be used to display a scale with numbers, or create a Likert scale.

Editing a poll#

The Poll post can be edited as desired after creation, but only until the 1st vote is received.

This is to prevent the question & options from being changed by the Poll creator after votes have started gathering, since it might lead to misinterpretation of the votes.

Screenshot-ready instant results#

Results of each poll are shown in real time, as soon as one selects a choice. The drool worthy design is ready for screenshotting and posting to your favorite social network.

Allowing unlogged members to participate#

Single or multiple choice Polls can optionally be set to allow non-logged in users to participate in the Poll. This option is only available to Pro accounts.

Note that open-ended Poll questions cannot allow unlogged in users to participate.
