Network Sites with hybrid access - part 3

Restricted Channels are a simple mechanism to enable casual users to become members (just by signing up) - ie potentially an important step in the user journey.

In the previous two parts I wrote about our comprehensive network #HybridAccess controls, and how the Private and Protected channels on MainCross work.

Finally, here's a simpler access control mechanism that prevents access to content for users who are not Members (or have just not signed in).

Introducing Restricted Channels

#RestrictedChannels work exactly like Protected channels - they allow open discovery, search on the network and via search engines, SEO, sampling of the content while protecting the actual content.

  1. Restricted Channels are publicly listed on the Network and are searchable & shareable.
  2. Restricted Channels can be opened by anyone, and the channel details and feed cards can be viewed.
  3. Content from Restricted Channels can even be found in search, and shared and will show link previews. Yaah.

A comprehensive set of channel access mechanisms are available to all MainCross networks, allowing an unprecedented level of control over the network...

Three access mechanisms for channel access control are supported - Paywall, Magic Link and Manual approval.

Access control mechanism

The only difference is in access control mechanism which automatically allows access only if one is a Member. Membership to the network is always free. Thus the slight complexity of managing Access Control Lists as required for Private and Protected channels is done away with.
