The MainCross system has many different post types - links, short post, article, scan post, poll, survey, quiz, question, answer etc.
Perhaps the network operator does not want to allow the members to use all these post types when posting. The follow levels of control are possible:
- Restrict post types globally
- Restrict post types per channel
With this ability comes a very powerful feature that gives complete control to the network operator - all the way from a locked down network to a permissive network!
Control post types globally
The network operator may turn off ALL the post types across the entire network. This locks down the network and is used by publishers or bloggers who want to use the MainCross Network CMS as a traditional CMS, and do not want to allow members to post on their network site.
Conversely, a network operator may make only certain post types available to member across the network.
Control post types per channel
Now lets look at an even greater degree of control - the ability to control post types on a per channel level. If one does not want to restrict post types globally, one could do it at a channel level. This allows the ability to make certain channels "read only", ie used by the network operator only, eg to broadcast updates. While other channels may allow a subset or all the post types.
Things to remember
Note that in all configurations, the network site still allows membership, and the following actions to be performed by members:
- Upvote, downvote, star
- Participating in Polls, Surveys, Quizzes etc
- Commenting and replies
- Posting and Answers to a Question
- Posting a Response to an Open Poll
Note that Network Heroes always have access to the full suite of posting tools in the channel irrespective of these configurations / restrictions.
