As a follow up from my earlier article, there are various products that fit various requirements and MainCross is not in competition with them. Let me explain.
If the requirement is to create a shiny, fancy static "marketing" website which is what the vast majority of small companies and organizations and people have, then the best bet might be Wordpress or Wix or Squarespace etc. These are simplistic systems and excel at creating static websites, with perhaps a blog attached for occasional updates.
Of course, the Wordpress ecosystem is extraordinary and has been hacked and enhanced to the hilt with lots of excellent extensions and themes - but its old hat. It's slow and cumbersome, and it definitely does not shine at community or social - try getting your Wordpress installation to handle 10K users and come back and talk to me.
On the other hand, if the requirement is to have high quality publishing without anything around community and social, then perhaps Ghost Pro is the best bet today. You are still building a static site though - the site is updated when new posts are published by the selected (small) set of authors. And maybe with some comments.
If your requirement is to have threaded discussions about something - usually support around tools or products etc, then a forum product is what you need, and maybe Discourse is the best.
What if your requirement does not match any of these?
What if you need content publishing and management, but with social tools, interaction, user profiles, notifications, comments, feed, engagement widgets, channels, follows and subscriptions, user management, newsletters, pages, customizations, lots of users where everyone is free to post myriad content and interact with each other ie you need publishing + community + social, where would you go?
Facebook comes to mind, but that also doesn't meet all the requirements.
And if you are bored of making arrogant silly valley companies richer and care about user privacy and humanity and sustainability and ethics and want to monetize your own network, where do you go?
That's when you come to the MainCross System.
